I have been attending Domopaloozas since 2018, both live and digital and I always look forward to the breakout sessions. While the main stage speakers are great, the breakout sessions are where you really get to hear how Domo is used by customers and Domo pros in the field. As I have no life, I JUST BINGED THEM ALL BREAKOUT SESSIONS and these are the Top 5 I think you should invest your time to not miss. Just so you know, I am solely picking my top 5 based on the following: audience engagement, storytelling and lesson for the audience. Please note that this is solely my opinion and I looked for presentations that were actionable, entertaining and inspiring. If you'd like to see my list for last year, you can see that here.
Andrea Henderson, the Queen of Magic ETL, always gets the biggest pop and the crowd was roaring as her and Leema Lallmamode showcased the lates ETL features. I think one of the reasons why seeing snap to grid, sections, notes, SQL tile, etc get the crowd so jazzed is because us Domo users interact with ETL every single day and we just know how much better this will make our lives.
Similar to the showcase of ETL features, Chris Wright, Khushboo, and Ryan Despain showcase some really cool new features like updates to App Studio and Report Builder. Again, I think why these get the audience so pumped is because these are everyday features Domo users will interact with and love.
Truthfully, I haven't watched any basketball since 1996's Space Jam. However, I can appreciate a great data story. What I liked about this presentation is that Jon Berkowsky kept reiterating how he is not a data scientist and how he was able to leverage the Domo UI and the Domo Data Science Team to build some amazing things for the NBA. "I wouldn't say I know SQL all that well, but we have been able to accomplish a ton in Domo because of it's great UI...What Domo has given us the most is speed...it's a superpower"
This one gets a lot of points for creativity and audience engagement. Colemen Wilson and Nathan Kilcrease started off by asking everyone to fill out a form that feeds into a model that feeds into Domo that feeds into Twilio to ultimately show you which Hogwarts house you belong in. Audience was super engaged and it gave a lot of inspiration of how to use Domo to further engage with people.
I gave out plastic measuring spoons whereas David Damitz gave out golf clubs. Again, not only was there high audience engagement, but he shared some inspiring stories of making apps for the sales team. The sales team was able to use Domo to understand clients and leads before having meetings and it's a great use case of Domo fostering inspiration and action.
These are my top 5 based on audience engagement, storytelling and lessons for the audience. I would love to hear which sessions you enjoyed the most. I said this at my session and it's what I tell all my clients: your job at Domopalooza is to be inspired - that's it. If you can get one idea from the event, that idea can result in tons of value for your organization. So get inspired and apply it to your organization.
Let me be your Domo guide and teach you how to be a Domo Masterchef like me! In my courses, you'll learn a quick overview of how to use Domo, all ETL functions, intro to SQL and you will make several dashboards along with me!
My goal is to make you the me of your organization so you can not only help your organization grow, but also so your peers and teammates can see the value you bring as a Data Person.
